First Presbyterian Church has an extensive music program ranging from Children's Choir and Hand Bell Choir to our Chancel Choir. Mamie Downing is the church Orgainist & Director of the Hand Bell Choir. Jan Capelle is our New Director of Music. Most of our singers have been members of the Chancel Choir for many years. We welcome new members to the choir at any time of the year. To express your interest, contact Jan Capelle or Mamie Downing through the church office.
In the Early Service, John Mark Solomon leads us in musical worship. He sings & plays guitar & many of the offertories he sings are of his own composition. He is accompanied by Willie Hadnot on the piano. The songs we sing are upbeat & easy to learn. Please come join us!
The Chancel Choir sings in the Eleven O’clock service. In addition to Sunday services the choir presents Lessons and Carols on the second Sunday of December and sings in the Tenebrae service preceding Easter. This choir is lead by our new Interim Choir Director Jan Capelle. Our practices are on Sunday evenings, 6pm in the Sanctuary.
Mamie Downing is the Organist & Hand Bell Choir director. Our practices are Wednesday's at 5:00 in the Sunday school room of the Fellowship Building.
If you are interested in joining any musical group, please contact Jan Capelle or Mamie Downing or call the church office for more information 903-675-3530.
PC Ringers practice @ 5:00pm in the Fellowship Building classroom. If you are interested in joining this musical group, please contact Mamie Downing or call the church office for more information 903-675-3530.
The Peg Cain Hand Bell Choir has played together for several years under the leadership of Mamie Downing. They play in worship each season & add to the musical joy of our Christmas Music Programs. We have a membership of twelve & out of those, there is a bell quartet that plays for special programs & in worship. The handbells perform using a 4 octave set of Schulmerich bells, and a 2 octave set of Schulmerich hand chimes.
The 2018 season for Men for Him has begun as we sang for the residents of Lakeland House on January 17 in spite of the frigid temperatures. Our big news, though, is that we will spend the spring preparing for a concert on Sunday, May 6, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Mark that date for an afternoon concert with Men for Him.
While we have 22 men in our chorus, we would love to grow that number to around 30. Do you love to sing? Do you want to share your faith through music while also having great fellowship with a group of Christian men? Then Men for Him may be a ministry that is calling you.
Men for Him sings four-part “barbershop style” religious music. We practice Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. With 2018 just beginning, this would be a great time for new people to join our chorus. If you love to sing or know of a friend or neighbor who does, please invite them to join us.
Since I no longer have a land line, please call me on my cell phone at 214-478-2386 if you would like additional information.
