Children's Ministries

We believe that the church should be a place where children experience God's gracious love,
the joy of worshipping and serving God together, and the peace of belonging to community of faith.

We take the promises made at a child's baptism seriously by committing to nurture our children through Bible study, worship, music, mission and fellowship.

Check below to see more information about all the programs and activities offered for children, from birth - 5th grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the Nursery and Preschool Children on Sunday mornings?
There are two adjacent rooms downstairs in the main building which are the nursery and activity rooms. You may access these rooms from the new atrium or the old double-door entrance.

How do you keep my child safe?
First Presbyterian Church has a child protection policy. All paid nursery staff and all volunteer teachers or event sponsors complete a Information Form and have a national background check completed. They also receive training.

How will you contact me if my nursery or preschool age child needs me? The head ushers at both services have a two-way radio which the nursery director can use to contact parents during services.

Where are the Elementary Children on Sunday mornings?
Kindergarten through 5th graders are upstairs in classrooms during the Sunday School hour

Will my child have the same teacher each week?

Yes. Children often develop long lasting relationships with their teachers. During the summer months assigned substitute teachers provide a break so that teachers can seek enrichment and re-charge their batteries.

How do you keep parents involved in their child’s experience at church? All children will have their materials from Sunday School. These materials are part of the curriculum and can be used to review what your child learned during the class. In addition, the craft project provides a great way to engage your child.
Children’s Ministry sends out mailings about upcoming events including the church newsletter each month. Information is also updated on the website calendar and in the weekly worship bulletins. Families are also encouraged to provide an email address where updates can be sent.

How do children participate in Worship?
All children are invited to participate in worship. Both in the Fellowship Building and Sanctuary, children will find Worship folders with children’s activity sheets and crayons Children also regularly participate in worship when choirs sing and for special occasions.

How can I volunteer?
First Presbyterian Church is very fortunate to have many outstanding and committed teachers and volunteers. If you are interested, the children’s ministry would like to visit with you. For more information, contact Amy Hoffman.
